Chapter 11 – Printed Electronics
By Joseph Fjelstad and Happy Holden

Chapter 11 details of the long history of the “new” technology of printed electronics. The chapter includes a review of traditional printing technologies such as screen printing, rotogravure printing, flexograph printing and offset printing. It also details new wave printing technologies that are being adapted to the manufacture of printed electronic circuits and assemblies, such as inkjet printing, imprinting/stamping, plasma printing, direct laser printing and curtain/roller coating.
The topic of printed electronics is expanded on with analysis of technological developments that have affected its materials, processes and ultimate marketability. Topics include ink technology, substrates and an ever-growing list of potential applications.
